Seconded National Experts & Guest Scientists

SNEs and Guest Visitors serve a dual role: they bring their expertise to EFSA and take back to their home administration or university the knowledge acquired during their period of secondment. In doing so, they foster mutual exchange and strengthen cooperation between EFSA and its partners.

SNEs are seconded to EFSA while remaining in the service of their national employer. Secondment is not equivalent to employment at EFSA, nor does it lead to employment by the Authority.

The duration of a secondment to EFSA is limited to a maximum of four years. The place of secondment is Parma.

Who can apply?

Civil servants from national authorities can work in our scientific or administrative units as SNEs.

Requirements

  • Candidates from public administrations/institutions or international government organisations should have the prior agreement of their organisation.
  • PhD candidates must prove that they are currently enrolled in a PhD programme.
  • You need to have a good knowledge of English (minimum level: B2 – according to CEFR).

Guest Programme Visitors

The Guest Programme is addressed at scientists, PhD candidates and professionals who can use their expertise in a particular area of EFSA’s activities or are interested in specific projects related to EFSA’s scientific work. Selected candidates do not receive any financial contribution, and EFSA does not cover any expenses incurred by them, other than those related to the performance of their duties during their secondment.

As a study visitor, you will develop your expertise through research or a project in a field of your choice within a multicultural environment.
